Bobby Peterson Quintet - The Hunch

December 1959 - Weeks On Chart: 8 - Highest Position: 27

This is an instrumental number that features a saxophone and piano. I think of it as at the midpoint between rock and jazz; it's pretty catchy.

Bobby Peterson was from Quincy, Pennsylvania, and started his career as a Ray Charles imitator before forming his quintet. "The Hunch" reached #71 on the Billboard pop chart in 1958; a cover by Paul Gayten reached #68 the next year.

The Bobby Peterson Quintet released a total of six singles, including "Irresistible You", which reached #96 and was later covered by Bobby Darin. The quintet disbanded in 1962. A biography can be found on the This Is My Story website (the text showed up as black on a black background, so you might have to select it to view it).
