100 Proof (Aged In Soul) - Somebody's Been Sleeping

December 1970 - Weeks On Chart: 8 - Highest Position: 12

This is another Detroit funk/soul song from the 1970 era. It's catchy but 1970 was a long time ago and songs don't sound like this anymore, for better or worse.

100 Proof (Aged In Soul) were put together in Detroit in 1969 by the songwriting and production team of Holland-Dozier-Holland, who were responsible for a number of Motown chart successes before heading off on their own in 1968. "Somebody's Been Sleeping" reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over a million copies.

At about this time, another song of theirs, "She's Not Just Another Woman", started receiving attention. Because Holland-Dozier-Holland didn't want two songs by the same band competing with one another on the charts, they released "She's Not Just Another Woman" under the name 8th Day (also listed on this website).

100 Proof (Aged In Soul) had a few other singles reach the R&B charts in the early 1970s but didn't reach the CHUM Chart again. They broke up in 1973.
