"Guitar Boogie Shuffle" was originally recorded by its writer, Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith, in 1948 as "Guitar Boogie". His version has more of a country feel, which I guess is not surprising, as rock and roll hadn't really been invented yet.
The Virtues were from Philadelphia; their frontman was named either Frank Virtue or Frank Virtuoso, depending on what source you believe. They formed as the Virtuoso Trio in 1947. By the mid-1950s, they had expanded into a five-person band. Their version of "Guitar Boogie Shuffle" reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Virtue dissolved The Virtues in 1962 to focus on record production and engineering; his studio in Philadelphia was active until the 1980s. He passed away in 1994 at the age of 71.
