Redeye - Games

January 1971 - Weeks On Chart: 9 - Highest Position: 10

One of the joys of doing this site is discovering songs that I hadn't heard in decades. It's not that I love this song all that much - it's that I hadn't heard it in over forty years before playing it just now and had forgotten that it had existed. With its acoustic guitar and multi-part harmonies, it's influenced a bit by Crosby/Stills/Nash, and its intro reminded me of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Born On The Bayou".

Redeye were from Los Angeles. "Games" reached #27 on the Billboard Hot 100; their followup, "Red Eye Blues", which more conspicuously featured CSN-style harmonies, only made it to #78. They produced two albums in the early 1970s and another version of the band released an album in 1987.
