The Mike Curb Congregation - Burning Bridges

March 1971 - Weeks On Chart: 7 - Highest Position: 7

This has absolutely nothing to do with rock and roll but I found it surprisingly listenable, possibly because I remember it from long ago.

Mike Curb (born 1944) is a producer and songwriter who allegedly fired 18 recording acts from MGM Records in 1970 because he believed that they were promoting hard drugs in their songs, though Curb himself disputes this. His collection of singers, The Mike Curb Congregation, reached #34 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 in South Africa with "Burning Bridges". They also sang backup on Sammy Davis Jr.'s "The Candy Man" and Jud Strunk's "Daisy a Day".

After this, Curb continued working with his record label, Curb Records, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2023. He became the lieutenant governor of California from 1979 to 1983; as of this date, he is the last Republican to have held the post. He also became interested in stock car racing, owning the car that Richard Petty drove in 1984 and 1985. He was inducted into the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame in 2006.

Created April 28, 2026.
