I remember this from when it first came out but hadn't listened to it in decades. To me, it now seems like a Latin version of smooth jazz and it's in a style that I don't really like. That's my problem, not theirs, of course.
Malo, which is Spanish for "bad", were from San Francisco and were formed by former members of bands named The Malibus and Naked Lunch. "Suavecito" (which is Spanish for "soft", according to Google Translate) was their only significant chart hit, reaching #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #8 on the Billboard Easy Listening chart.
Several members of the band left after their first album. Malo disbanded in 1974 but reformed in another incarnation in 1981. A version of the band released an album in 2005.
