This was so earnest an attempt to tug on the heartstrings that I couldn't listen to it - I lasted only 1:09 and a lot of that was the piano intro. I'm as sentimental as the next person but this was too much for me.
Jessi Colter, birth name Mirriam Johnson (born 1942), was from Phoenix, Arizona; her mother was a Pentecostal preacher and her father was a race-car driver. In 1961, she married guitarist Duane Eddy and toured with him; she also released two singles under her given name. She and Eddy divorced in 1968; in 1969, she married Waylon Jennings, adopted her new stage name, and started a career as a country singer.
"I'm Not Lisa" reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Canadian and US country charts. Ms. Colter had some other hits on the country charts in the mid-1970s and recorded albums into the mid-1980s. She and Jennings remained married until he passed away in 2002; she remarried in 2023.
