This song is sung in a high-pitched voice and, unfortunately, I found it irritating. It was hugely successful, so I guess nobody can please everybody.
Eddie Holman (born 1946) was born in Norfolk, Virginia and then moved to New York City. He started his recording career in 1962 and reached #17 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1966 with "This Can't Be True". "Hey There Lonely Girl" reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1970 and #4 on the UK singles chart in 1974. It sold over one million copies.
Holman continued releasing singles until 1977 without any notable success. He's still alive; sadly, he is now a widower, as his wife passed away in 2024 after over half a century of marriage.
