Surf rock is one of my favourite genres and this has always been one of my favourite examples of it.
The Chantays, sometimes listed as Chantay's, were from Orange County, California. "Pipeline" reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and made it to #16 in Britain.
This was the only memorable song the Chantays ever produced. But it was enough to earn them a place on Hollywood's Rock Walk and for their home town of Santa Ana to rename a street Chantays Way. Sometimes, you only have to get it right once.
