Arthur Brown (born 1942) was from Whitby, Yorkshire, England. He was possibly the first major artist to use facepaint (preceding Alice Cooper and Kiss), and his act featured a helmet that was set on fire.
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown was the first band that Brown formed. "Fire" was their only significant hit single, reaching #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 in the UK and selling over a million copies. It earned Brown the nickname "The God Of Hellfire".
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown broke up in 1969. He later put together Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come, which produced three albums in the early 1970s without noticeable success. Since then, he's continued to plug away at his career, releasing solo albums and recording and performing with various collaborators.
He last released a solo album in 2022 and his Wikipedia page shows a photo of him performing in 2025. He's still wearing the fire helmet, so presumably he is still The God Of Hellfire.
