The Yellow Balloon - Yellow Balloon

March 1967 - Weeks On Chart: 9 - Highest Position: 11

This song is relentlessly cheerful - a bit too cheerful for my taste, though certainly harmless. My first thought was that it reminded me a bit of Herman's Hermits, who were also relentlessly cheerful.

The Yellow Balloon's version of "Yellow Balloon" reached #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, thus outpacing Jan and Dean's version, which stopped short of the Hot 100, only getting to #111. The latter version featured Dean Torrence only, as Jan Berry was recovering from a car accident; it's not his best performance, as he sounds a bit nasal and flat.

The Yellow Balloon were from Los Angeles. Daryl Dragon, later the Captain half of The Captain & Tennille, was a member for a time. They recorded one album but then decided that they didn't have anything more that they wanted to produce, so they went their separate ways, apparently cheerfully.
