The Sandpebbles - Love Power

January 1968 - Weeks On Chart: 9 - Highest Position: 1

One of the joys of doing this site is listening again to songs that I had heard years ago but had forgotten. I only vaguely remembered this, as it was released a few years before I started listening to the radio seriously. But I enjoyed recalling it.

The Sandpebbles did better in Toronto with "Love Power" than they did elsewhere, as this song reached only #22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after reaching #14 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1967. They also reached #10 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1967 with "Forget It".

"Love Power" was covered by Luther Vandross in 1991 as the second part of "Power of Love/Love Power". This song isn't really in a style that I like.

The Sandpebbles left Calla Records, the label on which they recorded "Love Power", in 1968. For legal reasons, they were forced to change their name; they became "C & The Shells". They broke up in 1973.
