This is a wonderfully silly novelty record featuring incomprehensible falsetto singing, various doo-wop nonsense syllables, and assorted sound effects. The basic premise: the Martians are holding a dance party for the entire human race. Party on, space beings!
The Ran-Dells were two brothers and a cousin from Villas, New Jersey. "Martian Hop" reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 100, #2 nationally in Canada (including Toronto), and #27 on the Billboard Black singles chart, proving that people of all races, colours, and creeds want to dance on Mars. Two follow-up singles were unsuccessful.
