Mashmakhan - As The Years Go By

August 1970 - Weeks On Chart: 10 - Highest Position: 1

This has the feel of a traditional ballad. You can imagine it being sung at weddings in the distant past.

Mashmakhan were from L'Île-Perrot, a town in southwest Quebec. They were called The Triangle before changing their name to Mashmakhan, which was a variety of hashish.

"As The Years Go By" was added to the band's first album as a novelty song; they were not expecting it to be taken seriously. It reached #31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 in Canada. It was released in Japan under the title of "Kiri no Naka no Futari" ("Two In The Fog") and became hugely successful there. Global sales were over one million copies.

The band released two follow-up singles and two albums. They split up in 1971.
