Mac and Katie Kissoon - Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep

October 1971 - Weeks On Chart: 8 - Highest Position: 8

Mac and Katie Kissoon were a brother and sister duo from Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, who emigrated to the United Kingdom in 1962. "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" was their only North American hit, reaching #20 on the Billboard Hot 100. The duo had several other hits in England and parts of Europe. Katie Kissoon has had an extensive career as a backup singer, performing with Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, and Elton John, among others.

"Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" was also recorded by the Scottish group Middle Of The Road, who took it to #1 in the United Kingdom and sold over ten million copies (sadly, I find their version unlistenable but, obviously, millions of people disagreed with me). The song was written by English songwriter Lally Stott, who recorded his own version; it reached #1 in Australia and made it to #92 on the Billboard chart. Tragically, he passed away from a motorcycle accident in 1977 at the age of 32.
