The Hullaballoos - I'm Gonna Love You Too

January 1965 - Weeks On Chart: 5 - Highest Position: 33

This is not my favourite interpretation of a song first recorded by Buddy Holly - for one thing, there's too much emphasis on the hiccuping sound that Holly liked to use when he was singing.

The Hullaballoos got their name because they were from Hull in England; their look featured long hair which they had dyed blonde. Their first single, "Did You Ever", reached #74 on the Billboard Hot 100 (I managed to make it through 19 seconds of this). Their version of "I'm Gonna Love You Too" was their second single; it reached #56. They broke up in 1966.

Buddy Holly's version of "I'm Gonna Love You Too" was recorded and released in 1958; it didn't chart. Terry Jacks, who was best-known at the time for being in The Poppy Family, released his version in 1973; it didn't make it into the Billboard Hot 100 but it did chart in Canada, reaching #7 nationally and #12 on the CHUM chart. He later became famous (or infamous) for "Seasons In The Sun".
