The Hollywood Flames - Buzz-Buzz-Buzz

January 1958 - Weeks On Chart: 11 - Highest Position: 2

This was a fun listen. The backing vocals remind me of The Jordanaires on early Elvis singles.

The Hollywood Flames were from the Watts neighbourhood of Los Angeles. In their early years, they recorded for up to 19 different record labels under a variety of names, including The Turks, The Jets, The Sounds, Bobby Day & the Satellites, and Earl Nelson & the Pelicans. "Buzz-Buzz-Buzz" was their only hit on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching #11.

The group stayed in existence, with various personnel changes, until 1967. Original member Bobby Day (born Robert James Byrd) went on to a solo career, reaching #2 in 1958 with "Rockin' Robin" and making it to the CHUM chart six times between 1957 and 1959.

Created January 23, 2026.
