Claude Gray - I'll Just Have A Cup Of Coffee (Then I'll Go)

March 1961 - Weeks On Chart: 8 - Highest Position: 16

The CHUM Chart Book lists this record's title as "I'll Have Another Cup Of Coffee (Then I'll Go)." I only listened to about half of this - not because it was bad but because it was so obviously a typical country music song from its era.

Claude Gray (1932-2023) was nicknamed "The Tall Texan". He was born in Henderson, Texas and he was 6'5", so he came by his nickname honestly. Several of his songs reached the country music chart during the 1960s, including "Family Bible" in 1960.

"I'll Just Have A Cup Of Coffee (Then I'll Go)" was the only song of his to reach the Billboard Top 100 chart, as it made it to #84. It was covered by Bob Marley in 1962 (when he was 16 years old) as "One Cup Of Coffee"; this version is classic early Jamaican ska.

Created November 27, 2025.
