This is very much a country music song and is very much of its time. It's not really my thing but it is catchy.
Billy Grammer (1925-2011) was from Benton, Illinois, and was the oldest of 13 children. "Gotta Travel On" was his first single release; it reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and sold over a million copies.
After this, Grammer joined the cast of the Grand Old Opry and marketed and sold a guitar named after him. He also had the misfortune of performing at the Laurel, Maryland rally where George Wallace was shot. In later years, he suffered from a degenerative eye disease that left him blind.
