This is another of the early 1970s soul songs that were common on the radio back then. This has a bit more of an easy-listening tinge than some of the others.
The Five Stairsteps were five siblings from Chicago: Clarence Jr. (the lead singer), Alohe, Dennis, Jean, and Keni, with baby brother Cubie joining them on occasion. They were known as The First Family Of Soul until the title was passed on to the Jackson Five.
The Five Stairsteps had a successful career in the late 1960s and early 1970s, placing ten songs in the R&B top twenty and 15 songs in the Billboard Top 100, though mostly in the lower part of it. "O-o-h Child" was their only significant pop success, reaching #8 on the Top 100 and selling over a million copies.
Various members of the Burke family continued to record into the 1970s, with Keni Burke releasing singles into the 1980s.
