The Elegants - Little Star

March 1958 - Weeks On Chart: 12 - Highest Position: 3

The Elegants were a doo-wop group from the South Beach neighbourhood of New York. They were still in their teens when "Little Star" was released; it went to number one on the Billboard pop chart and sold over one million copies. It was based on the children's nursery rhyme "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and it's a classic slice of 1950s doo-wop - you can practically see the cars with enormous tail fins playing the song on their in-dash radios.

The Elegants never reached the charts again but continued to perform throughout the United States into the 2010s. Lead singer Vito Picone has played bit parts in some movies and television shows, including playing himself in Goodfellas and an episode of The Sopranos.

Created December 4, 2025.
