Dusk - I Hear Those Church Bells Ringing

September 1971 - Weeks On Chart: 4 - Highest Position: 16

When Tony Orlando and Dawn became successful in 1970, their producers, Hank Medress and Dave Appell, looked for another group to work with. The result, Dusk (a different time of day from Dawn!), featured lead singer Peggy Santiglia, who was the lead singer for The Angels when they hit it big with "My Boyfriend's Back" in 1963.

Not surprisingly, "I Hear Those Church Bells Ringing" reproduces the girl-group sound - you can easily imagine The Angels or The Crystals, among others, singing it. It was a bit of an anachronism in 1971, though it did manage to reach #53 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Dusk released two other singles without success. Ms. Santaglia has released a solo single and has toured with The Angels into the twenty-first century. She's still alive as I write this - she turns 82 in May.
