I remember this from when it first came out. The world is a different place now. This is probably just as well. I couldn't quite make it through all of this song, so many years later.
Daddy Dewdrop was a pseudonym of Richard "Dick" Monda, a songwriter and actor who grew up in California. This song reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1971. He recorded a few other singles in the 1970s, including an extended dance recording, "Nanu Nanu", released in 1978, which tries its very hardest to be funky.
"Chick-A-Boom" was covered by Ted Knight, of The Mary Tyler Moore Show fame, in 1975. All I will say about this is that listening to it is a transformational experience.
