The Bell Notes - I've Had It

March 1959 - Weeks On Chart: 11 - Highest Position: 4

I found this song fascinating because it seems to have so many influences: the rhythm sounds a bit like early rockabilly, the vocals sound a bit like doo-wop, and the twangy guitar sounds like surf music.

The Bell Notes were from Long Island. "I've Had It" was their first single; it was recorded in Times Square for a cost of fifty dollars. It reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, so this was quite a return on investment. "I've Had It" has been covered by Lonnie Mack, Fanny, Alex Chilton, and the Fabulous Poodles, among others.

The Bell Notes released a few other singles after this and two of them made the lower reaches of the Billboard chart. They broke up in about 1962.

Created December 12, 2025.
