Grenville Kleiser

Toronto Daily Star, October 3 1932

Back in the day, the Toronto Daily Star's editorial page always included a poem as part of its A Little Of Everything feature. Here's an example from the October 3 1932 edition:

Grenville Kleiser (1868-1953) was an author whose works would likely now be found in the Self Help section of a bookstore. He compiled collections of sermons and books on oratory and personal development with titles such as How To Sell Through Speech and Make Your Life Worth Living.

Kleiser was born in Toronto and lived there as a young man. The 1894 Toronto city directory lists Grenville P. Kleiser with an occupation of "elocutionist" and living at 421 Church Street. The 1900 and 1901 directories do not list him. He eventually became an instructor in public speaking at Yale Divinity School.

One of his compilations, Model Speeches for Practise (1920), is available as part of Project Gutenberg.

Created October 3, 2025.
