Today’s lesson: realize that all sorts of unsavoury characters can be found at gaming tables, such as the man on the right of this picture, who is obviously a vampire. And, don’t forget that soon, you might become... uninsurable. Old. Sickly. Obviously worthless. Remember that your dependents only value you because you bring home the bacon; if you stop being a good provider, you will be cast out onto an ice floe and left to die. The last paragraph of this ad is the most interesting: I see no semantic difference between “Secure the benefit of the experience and suggestions of The London Life representative,” and “Do what our salesman tells you to do.” And I also don’t understand why The London Life would bill itself as Canada’s Industrial Ordinary Company. What does that mean? |
